Visualising Organic Food Molecules

This activity (Activity 15.1 in Book 4) allows you to explore the three-dimensional shapes of the complex molecules found in food. Once again you will view images of ball-and-stick models that you can rotate for yourself, giving you an insight into the way their shape can affect their chemical properties. In particular you will explore two types of isomerism: cis/trans isomerism and chirality.

These pages require the Java Runtime Environment to be installed. This can be installed from the Online Applications CD-ROM or from the Java website.

Estimated study time: Activity 15.1 should take you about 30 minutes to study.
