The Open University

Are you ready for DD103?

Welcome

Welcome to this quiz! The aim of the quiz is to help you decide if you are ready to start studying for DD103, where DD103 would be the first module you study with us at the Open University. This is a short quiz which looks at the sorts of skills that you will need and develop during the module. No prior subject or specialist knowledge is needed to do this quiz. Indeed, the aim of the quiz is not to test your background knowledge but rather draw on the sorts of skills that you will need in studying DD103.

The quiz should take no more than 30 minutes. There are 10 questions in all and you should view the quiz as a ‘taster’ of things to come. Each question is worth one mark and your final mark will be out of ten. The quiz asks questions that cover the sorts of comprehension and numeracy skills that you will use in DD103. This could mean the ability to understand a passage of written text or how to understand data contained in graphs and tables. For the numerical questions, you are free to use a calculator if that helps you.

After doing the quiz you’ll have a better idea of how well prepared you are to start studying for DD103. Only you will have access to the results of the quiz. This means that your marks will not be made available to your tutor, should you decide to go ahead and register for DD103 as the first module in your OU qualification.

Don’t worry if you score a low mark – that is 4 or less – in the quiz. There are suggestions at the end of the quiz on how you can develop your skills further to prepare you better for DD103. A good idea is to take some time to work through these suggestions and then take the quiz again. Hopefully, you will have developed your skills after working through the suggestions and achieve a better mark before registering on the module.

If you scored 5 or above, then you are ready to register for module. You are free, of course, to take the quiz again if you decide you wish to develop further still. The suggestions at the end of the quiz will point you to sources you can use to enhance your comprehension and numerical skills still further.

Good luck with the quiz!

Your progress through the test will be stored in your browser, so you can leave the test and return on another day if you don't have time to complete it now.
